Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, Food Truck Rally at First Friday

How are your spitting skills? A watermelon seed spitting contest is one of the featured events at Palm Harbor's First Friday on Oct. 5 along with the popular food truck rally. First Friday is from 5 to 9 p.m.

This month's First Friday celebration in old downtown Palm Harbor features a wacky spin, a watermelon seed spitting contest.

"It will be some old fashion family fun," says Debbie Thomas, Old Palm Harbor Main Street Director.

For those of you who've never entered a watermelon seed spitting contest, here's how it will work-

  • Buy a slice of watermelon for $1 
  • Stand on the official spitting line  
  • Spit watermelon seeds onto a designated plastic runner.
  • In order for the seed to count, it must land on the plastic runner.
  • The person whose watermelon seed travels the furthest on the runner wins a small prize.
  • There will be different age categories

The First Friday celebration is from 5 to 9 p.m. and will also feature a Street Dancing Competition, Sidewalk Chalk Art, and a Food Truck Rally.

The First Friday celebration is sponsored by Old Palm Harbor Main Street and will be held in the parking lot of Harbor Hall, which is located at 1190 Georgia Ave.
