FSU Panama City Ascent program receives $126,000 grant (mypanhandle.com) — FSU Panama City's ASCENT program just received a $126,000 grant to expand technology clubs, esports, and hands-on STEM activities for local K-12 and university students. The funding will pay for tools like drones, 3D printers, and robotics parts, helping more Panhandle students access modern tech and build skills for future high-demand careers.
3. BCSO searching for armed robbery suspect, Gabriel 'Goofy' McCoy (wjhg.com) — Bay County deputies based in Panama City are asking for your help finding 27-year-old armed robbery suspect Gabriel "Goofy" McCoy, wanted in connection with an August 28 holdup at a Hyde Avenue home. Investigators say he's tied to multiple cases and remains at large, and they're urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the sheriff's office immediately.
4. Northwest Florida Teachers Get New AI Training as FSU InSPIRE Expands STEM Initiative (midbaynews.com) — FSU's InSPIRE team in Panama City is rolling out new AI-focused training for K–12 teachers across Northwest Florida after learning directly from experts at Google's AI Educator Series. The expanded courses will help local educators use Gemini tools and hands-on STEM projects to design future-ready lessons tied to regional industries like aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing, strengthening students' career preparation.
5. One year later and still no Bay County tribute to Charlie Kirk (newsherald.com) — Local governments in Bay County, including Panama City, still have not named any public asset after conservative influencer Charlie Kirk a year after his killing. Despite a large, non-scientific poll showing many residents support some form of recognition, Panama City commissioners postponed a decision on renaming Government Street until 2027 while downtown redevelopment plans take shape.
