2. Panama City hosts tour over potential NOAA budget cuts (mypanhandle.com) — A statewide tour opposing proposed NOAA budget cuts stopped in Panama City Beach to warn that a local federal lab and key storm, fisheries, and climate programs could be at risk. Advocates say losing NOAA resources would weaken hurricane forecasting, harm Gulf fisheries, and threaten Florida's coastal economy, including jobs tied directly to the Panama City lab.
3. A fall cold front to bring gorgeous air and temperatures the next few days (wjhg.com) — Expect some of the nicest weather of the season around Panama City as a fall cold front brings cool nights in the 60s, sunny days, and low humidity through the weekend. Highs will stay in the low to mid‑80s before creeping back toward 90 and bringing a few stray showers early next week. It's a great stretch to plan outdoor time.
4. Bay looking for their second district win against Pensacola High (wjhg.com) — Bay High's football team from Panama City heads to Pensacola seeking a second district win, riding a 4-1 start and a dominant offense. Sophomore quarterback Mace Grant has thrown nine touchdowns without an interception, while running back Jamarlin "Tank" Huntely powers the ground game ahead of Friday night's key 3A-1 matchup.
5. Florida Scientists Hear Knocking On Lab Door And Find A Pelican Looking For Help (thedodo.com) — Scientists at the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Panama City were surprised when an injured pelican literally knocked on their lab door for help. They carefully removed fishing line, a hook, and cactus spines before releasing the calm bird back into the sky. The story also reminds local anglers to discard fishing line properly to protect wildlife.
