1. Pensacola eyeing an Escambia County Superfund site as an inland port (pnj.com) — Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves is exploring a partnership with Escambia County to turn part of the Midtown Commerce Center Superfund site on North Palafox into an inland port supporting the Port of Pensacola. The plan could tie into the Birdon shipbuilding project, potentially combining up to 90 acres and thousands of jobs while navigating environmental limits on the long-contaminated site.
2. No decision made on Pensacola's underage curfew by city councilmen (wkrg.com) — Pensacola's proposed curfew for unsupervised minors is on hold after city councilmembers declined to act on the ordinance, leaving current rules unchanged for now. Leaders debated allowable hours, enforcement, and communication, while Mayor D.C. Reeves said he still supports a curfew but doesn't know when it will return to the agenda.
3. Three Candidates Will Be on Your Ballot for ECUA Distrit 4 City of Pensacola (opgov.news) — Pensacola-area voters in ECUA District 4 will see three names on their November ballot, choosing who helps set local water, sewer, and sanitation policy. Democrat Jacob Cavender, Republican Greg Litton, and no-party candidate Ralph Schofield each pitch different priorities on rates, infrastructure, and environmental protection that could shape everyday services across Escambia County.
4. Berks County nonprofit grants 5th veteran's wish (readingeagle.com) — A combat-injured veteran living in Pensacola just received a new guitar from Berks County nonprofit American Hero Wishes, marking the group's first wish granted in Florida. The organization, founded by Army veteran Brianne Houck, aims to honor disabled combat veterans nationwide with personalized wishes, and hopes to expand to serving at least one veteran in every state.
5. Bands on the Bayou in Pensacola to close season with Cowboy Park concert (wkrg.com) — Pensacola's Bands on the Bayou series wraps up Oct. 2 with a free Cowboy Park concert at Bayview Park on East Lloyd Street, open to everyone.
