📰 News we're reading

1. 2026 Pensacola Seafood Festival Brings Three Days of Food, Live Music and Family Fun Downtown (newsradio923.com) — Downtown Pensacola's Seafood Festival returns Sept. 25–27 with free admission, live music, and a huge variety of Gulf Coast dishes spread across Seville Square, Fountain Park, and Bartram Park. Organizers share music lineups, chef demos, kids' activities, parking tips, trolley hours, and rules on coolers, pets, and payments so locals can plan their weekend around the crowds and flavors.

2. It Took 12 Years To Disappoint Elected Officials, Citizens on a Bathroom Facility City of Pensacola (opgov.news) — Pensacola's City Council has approved buying a prebuilt restroom building for Veterans Memorial Park after years of delays and debate over a state grant worth up to $750,000. The 5–2 vote funds just one men's and one women's restroom, frustrating some council members and veterans who say the facility is too small and late. Officials must still decide how to use remaining grant money before a 2027 deadline.

3. West Pensacola senior apartment complex residents once again troubled by broken elevator (weartv.com) — Residents of the Alabaster Gardens Senior Community in West Pensacola say their only elevator has been broken for about a month, leaving many seniors with medical issues effectively trapped on upper floors. Tenants report no visible repair work, vague promises about technicians, and a leasing office that won't provide updates. Some residents haven't left their apartments in weeks because they can't safely manage the stairs.

4. Arc Gateway to host a free fishing clinic for people with disabilities in Pensacola (wkrg.com) — A free fishing clinic for people with disabilities is coming to Vince J. Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park in downtown Pensacola on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon. Hosted by Arc Gateway, the event includes hands-on fishing instruction, marine education booths, and interactive activities, with the first 250 registrants receiving a free rod and reel, T‑shirt, and bait.

5. FDOH: Kindergarten vaccination rates dip across Northwest Florida (weartv.com) — Pensacola-area families are seeing a dip in kindergarten vaccination rates, with Escambia County now just over 87% of students fully vaccinated, down from nearly 89% last year. Health officials say similar declines are happening in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties, while measles cases statewide have surged and more parents are seeking vaccine exemptions amid confusing information.
