Florida beach paradise vacation rental crackdown (latination.com) — Pensacola Beach officials are weighing tougher rules on short-term vacation rentals, including possible mandatory registration and 24-hour property managers, after complaints about noise, trash, parking and overcrowding. At the same time, Pensacola's growing national profile as an award-winning beach destination and its packed festival calendar, including Mural Fest and Foo Foo Festival, continue drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area.
5. Heroic boat captain jumps in to save diver being savaged by shark: 'Not bleeding out on my watch' (nypost.com) — A diver attacked by a bull shark about 30 miles off Florida's Emerald Coast is now recovering at a Pensacola hospital, thanks to the fast actions of his boat captain and fellow divers. They pulled him aboard, used makeshift tourniquets and wound powder to slow heavy bleeding from both arms, and kept him calm until the Coast Guard could rush him to shore for surgery.
