1. Pensacola board recommends returning Mardi Gras parades to Palafox (wkrg.com) — Downtown Pensacola leaders are backing a return of the Mardi Gras parade route to Garden Street and South Palafox, now that the "New Palafox" project is finished. Before anything is final, the city, parade organizers, and public safety officials must confirm the revamped street can safely handle floats and vehicles without damaging recent improvements.
   

2. Pensacola moves to buy blighted properties along Pace-Cervantes corridor (weartv.com) — Pensacola officials are preparing to spend a $5 million state grant to buy and clear blighted commercial properties along the Pace-Cervantes corridor, opening the door to new housing, shops, or a grocery store. The Community Redevelopment Agency will pick a demolition and abatement vendor next week before the plan heads to City Council for final approval.
   

3. Baptist Health Care, PAM Health add 100 hospital beds in Northwest Florida (wkrg.com) — Pensacola residents can expect significantly expanded hospital capacity, with Baptist Health Care and PAM Health partnering to add 40 new acute care beds at Baptist Hospital and 60 inpatient rehab beds at Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile. A new freestanding rehab hospital will be built on the Nine Mile campus, while space at Henderson Health Center will shift to acute care, directly addressing growing local demand for inpatient treatment.
   

4. Man gets prison term in Pensacola bank fraud case (rollingout.com) — A 23-year-old Pensacola man has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for his role in a bank fraud scheme that targeted Pensacola-area banks and credit unions using stolen identities and fake documents. Local residents also get practical tips from federal agencies on spotting and responding to identity theft, including closing unauthorized accounts and using free credit freezes.
   

5. Beach renourishment, stronger acts credited for economic impact of Pensacola Air Show (weartv.com) — This summer's Pensacola Beach Air Show pumped an estimated $38.8 million into the local economy, thanks to more than 200,000 visitors spending on lodging, dining, and attractions. Officials credit recent beach renourishment and stronger opening acts, and say tourism dollars will help fund Escambia County projects like the upgraded John R. Jones Sports Complex.
