📰 News we're reading

• One year later, at twice the cost, Pensacola back to rejected Baptist advisor (pnj.com) — Pensacola's CRA board has approved a new one-year, $695,000 contract with Bayou District Consulting to guide redevelopment of the old Baptist Hospital campus, more than double last year's rejected proposal. The deal, which still needs full council approval, shifts money from a Westside façade grant and promises extensive community input and anti-displacement planning for nearby neighborhoods.

• Making WAVEs: How UWF is shaping the future of maritime engineering (newswise.com) — UWF's WAVE Program, based at the Port of Pensacola, is turning the city's maritime assets into hands-on training and research opportunities for engineering students. By partnering with local companies, defense contractors, and groups like American Magic, the initiative aims to solve real marine-technology problems while building a stronger, higher-paying maritime workforce for Pensacola and the broader Gulf Coast.

• Sunny on Thursday, but Hurricane Isaias will make landfall Friday Night (wdam.com) — Hurricane Isaias is forecast to make landfall near Pensacola late Friday night as a Category 2 storm with 105 mph winds, posing a serious threat to local residents and property. While the heaviest rain and wind are expected along and east of I-59, conditions worsen closer to the Alabama line, with possible power outages from Friday night into Saturday morning. Today's weather remains hot and sunny.
