Miami Area Woman Threatened to Blow Up House in Police Standoff
The woman surrendered to police at 149 Avenue and SW 157 Street.

SOUTH MIAMI, FL β A woman whom police described as "in distress" barricaded herself and her 62-year-old mother inside a home for several hours on Wednesday and threatened to blow up the house if police tried to enter.

The standoff began just before before 11 a.m. when a woman called 9-1-1 to say that she had been served with papers to vacate her home in the 14900 block of SW 157 Terrace.

"The woman said she would not vacate the home," explained Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "The woman said she would not vacate the home, and if confronted, she would shoot at responding police officers and blow up the house with herself and her mother in it."

Hostage negotiators and the department's Special Response Team were subsequently called to the scene.
The four-hourstandoff ended peacefully in the tree-lined neighborhood of unincorporated southwest Miami-Dade County around 3 p.m. with the woman surrendering to Miami-Dade police.
"The negotiators were able to make contact and after speaking with the woman, officers were able to take her into custody without further incident," said Pinkard.
Police did not identify the woman but said that she is 41.
Detective Marjorie Eloi of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Eloi said that she did not know if explosives were found in the home.
