TREASURE ISLAND, FL — Treasure Island Fire Rescue marine patrols have been sent out three times this week due to swimmers becoming trapped in rip currents.

Fire rescue officials remind residents and spring break visitors that, with the cold front approaching, the possibility of rip tides has increased substantially.

Officials urge boaters and beach goers to check the forecast and boating conditions before heading out on the water and beware of rip currents that can trap the strongest swimmers.
