54-Year-Old Woman Killed On Electric Bicycle In Madeira Beach

MADEIRA BEACH, FL — A 54-year-old woman was killed Thursday after being struck by a pickup truck while riding her electric bicycle in Madeira Beach.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, shortly after 3 p.m. Kimberly Ann Watson was riding her Jupiter electric bicycle on the sidewalk on the east side of Gulf Boulevard. She was traveling south approaching the business entrance to Sinbad’s Big Treasure Chest home goods store.

At the same time, 61-year-old Robert Ragusa was driving his 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck west in the business' parking lot and was preparing to exit onto Gulf Boulevard when Watson crossed into his path. The pickup truck struck Watson on her bicycle in the parking lot exit.

Watson was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. Ragusa was not injured and remained at the scene during the investigation. It does not appear that speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
