A Sunday Night at the Redington Long Pier

A rainy morning and a threatening front in the Gulf didn't keep fishermen and birds away from the Redington Long Pier in Redington Shores just before sunset Sunday.

The Redington Long Pier is a mecca for anglers and those who wish to enjoy a sunset. This Sunday was no different, though the rains and an approaching front off the Gulf of Mexico seemed to dampen normal festivities Sunday.

The Redington Long Pier is not a public facility like the St. Petersburg Pier. It is a privately-owned facility. So in order for both locals and visitors to the area to be able to use the pier, it costs $3 per person.

The Redington Long Pier is also a haven for all sorts of birds, not just pelicans but blue herons, gulls and other flying creatures. Often the birds will try to grab a small fish landed by a fisherman or anglers will help the birds spot a quick snack.
