Baby With 6 Broken Ribs Hospitalized, Pinellas Man Charged With Abuse

A 20-year-old Pinellas Park man is facing child abuse charges after being accused of fracturing a 3-month-old infant's ribs.

PINELLAS PARK, FL — A 20-year-old Pinellas Park man is facing child abuse charges after being accused of fracturing a 3-month-old infant's ribs.

On Monday, Pinellas Park police and child protective investigators responded to a local hospital, which reported that a baby had been brought in earlier that day with six fractured ribs, according to a news release from Pinellas Park police. Medical personnel at the hospital said the injuries were consistent with "abuse-related trauma."

Detectives learned the baby had been injured while in the care of Anthony Mazzola of the 55th St. N, police said.

They arrested and charged him with aggravated child abuse. He's being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail.

The infant remains hospitalized, butpolice report the baby's injuries are not life-threatening.
