The law has come up after residents of Belleair Beach reporting a large number of wild birds showing up in their neighborhoods because of people feeding them.

The law would only affect people who feed the birds by hand. Fixed position bird feeders would still be allowed.

First-time offenders would be given a warning, people who continue to feed the birds would face a fine of a yet to be determined amount.

The city council will be voting on the ordinance next month. If it passes then, it'll be voted on a second time in April before it became a law.
