Bright Businesses: Blue Sky Boutique
Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts or something for yourself from this shop's selection of clothes, jewelry and home accessories in a newly expanded location.
ST. PETE BEACH- Debbie Vandaveer is living her dream. The lifelong entrepreneur always wanted to have her own art boutique. Three weeks ago her dream expanded, when she moved Blue Sky Boutique down a block on Corey Avenue. Her new shop, which is about five times larger, still offers the work of more than 70 artists.
Growing up in western New York Vandaveer’s family had a restaurant. After many years in the restaurant business she started a nail salon. During her 20 years of doing manicures Vandaveer started selling art in her salon. The art sold well and her customers commented that maybe she should consider focusing on selling art. Vandaveer started Blue Sky Boutique about eleven years ago. Art is her inspiration.
"No two people do anything a like and I just appreciate people's talents," Vandaveer said.

Vandaveer makes some of the art in the shop including vibrant three-dimensional floral necklaces.
"I am more of an eclectic artist. I do more funky, than fine art," she said.

Most of the artwork is local but beach visitors from around the world make some of the items. Vandaveer has a knitter from Canada who brings her wares each year when she vacations in St. Pete Beach.
"They come into the shop. I notice they have a cool top or a neat bag. I ask them about it and they say I made this," Vandaveer said.
The shop sells jewelry, clothes and home accessories. Most of the items have a tropical or beach theme. Vandaveer is always looking for more artists; she said she is happy to look at people’s work.
