Easy Ways to Be Green on the Beach

Make your trip to the beach an eco-friendly one.

Staying green isn't the biggest thing on people's minds when they hit up the beach. While getting wild in the water can definitely be the number one priority, here are some tips to remain for green conscious while out on the beach.

1. Use the walkways: The bordwalks that lead out to the beach are there for more than just looking pretty. They will take you above and over the areas where plant life is growing and animals call their home. By simply staying on the path most traveled, you're helping keep the beach greener.

2. Make use of the recycling bins: Everybody has brought a soda or bottle of water with them to the beach. Instead of just trashing it, try to find one of the that have been set up specifically for recycling. It's just as easy as tossing it in the trash and it helps the environment.

3. Grab a reusable cooler: For the longer beach outings where a cooler full of water is necessary, grab a rubbermaid cooler. The cheap styrofoam coolers can break easily and send particles across the sand and in the water. Plus, you won't have to spend money time and time again to get a new cooler each time the styrofoam cracks.

4. Keep the pets at home: Unless you're hitting up a specific dog beach, Spot should sit out the beach trip. Dogs may get into some of the natural habitats and may disturb the nesting grounds for the some of the seabirds. If the pooch has to come along, try going to Fort De Soto instead for a fun day for everyone.

5. Keep a plastic bag with you: If you plan on walking the beach, it doesn't hurt to have a bag with you to pick up some trash along the way. It doesn't take anything out of your time and you help keep our beach looking beautiful. Just because it isn't your trash doesn't mean you shouldn't pick it up.
