Five Things We Learned on Patch this Week

When a man boards a trolley holding a basket of juggling pins, there’s really no excuse not to ask questions. Actually, as a reporter, I feel like it’s my duty to find out more. Turns out, John Buckeley doesn’t mind, because I’ve taken his photo before. That’s not really shocking; I like jugglers.

: Florida lawmakers are drawing lines in the sand, so to speak. Lawmakers are looking closely at Florida's population growth over the past 10 years. Based on population data collected in the 2010 U.S. Census, the state is gaining two additional seats in the House of Representatives.

A rezoning request from the Coconut Inn has been denied by the St. Pete Beach city commission, according to an article from the St. Petersburg Times. Coconut Inn owner, Mike Caruso, was wanting to know if the inn, zoned as residential, could be torn down, rebuilt and extended into part of a vacant back lot that also is part of a residential area, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

The Pinellas County School Board voted on Tuesday to approve the contract of Dr. John Stewart to become interim superintendent for Pinellas County Schools beginning Saturday. He temporarily replaces Julie Janssen, who was terminated without cause last week.

On a Sunday morning, Pozena Kloska sipped her coffee at a banquette near the door of Cafe de Paris Bakery.  She didn’t have time for her usual full breakfast. Kloska, an Indian Rocks Beach resident and a frequent customer, usually makes time for a longer visit.
