Former Fire Chief Returns to Office

Former fire chief Derryl O'Neal has taken the place as the interim Madeira Beach fire chief until a a replacement is found.

Derryl O’Neal has returned to duty in Madeira Beach, at least for a little while.

O'Neal is acting as the interim fire chief for Madeira Beach while the city looks for a replacement for Bill Mallory, according to an article from tbnweekly.com.

O'Neal was the fire chief for Madeira Beach from 2001 to 2009 and has returned in a temporary capacity this past Monday. O'Neal had served Madeira Beach until he was fired by former city manager W.D. Higginbotham.

Former chief Mallory resigned from his position earlier this month on November 17 for unexplained reasons. 

Mallory's resignation said he would work until December 2, but interim city manager dismissed him the day that he turned in his resignation.

Currently, O'Neal is taking a leave of absence from his job as fire chief in Mineola to work as the interim fire chief.
