Four for a Rainy Fourth
Here's four activities for families for a bad weather Independence Day.

Weather hasn’t been the best this weekend and it’s possible that this Fourth of July could be a wet one. Since rain would cancel out barbecues and fireworks for all but the most diehard Fourth of July junkies, it might be wise to come up with a back up plan. If you don’t want to brave the possible rain, here are four fun ideas that you can do to celebrate Independence Day with your family without venturing too far outdoors.
- Patriotic movie night: Grab a few films and make some popcorn for a night of good American themed movies. Pretty much any war film would make a good choice, or you could throw on Independence Day or Born on the Fourth of July for a literal take on the holiday.
- Family Flag Making: For people with little kids, grab some material, cloth or construction paper, and glue to see what the kids would make for their own flag. Kids will have fun with designing their own flag and you’ll get to enjoy how wild their imaginations can be.
- American cooking: Whip up some of the best American dishes. Apple pie and a pitcher of lemonade will make for a great evening snack. If you want to get the kids involved, make sugar cookies and do red, white and blue decorations.
- Lose yourself in History: While this one may constitute as learning, it can still be fun. Have everyone choose one of our founding fathers and look up five of the most obscure facts about the person. Did you know that Thomas Jefferson raised lions? Looking up the facts can be interesting and educational.
