Hometown: Pittsburg, PA. Pinellas county since 1946.

Title: Volunteer, on Board of Directors

How long have you been volunteering?
“I’ve been here for 15 or 20 years, but I’ve volunteered since the 1950’s.”

How often do you volunteer?
“I’m just getting back into it now. This month I’m here two of the Saturdays.”

What encouraged you to begin volunteering?
“I’ve always been interested in history. I get that from my dad. He came over from England and met my mom at the local church. Those stories are so fascinating to me. I like talking about them because that’s how the people live on, in our memories.”

What keeps you interested in volunteering?
“The people. This place started because of seven women who have passed on now. Wayne Ayers, he’s a good talker, and his wife, Nancy, own it now.”

What do you like about this area?
“It’s not too busy. It feels like home, the people are so friendly.”

How can people help?
“We need more volunteers. Someone who’s interested in history too. We used to have two people in the house all the time, but we’re down to one.”
