Helping Hands: Sharon Bennett

If you've been to the Beach Art Center, you've almost definitely seen Sharon Bennett answering the phones, balancing the books or giving a tour to anyone who asks.

Name: Sharon Bennett

Hometown: Seminole, for the past 24 years

Title: Bookkeeper, volunteer for the Beach Art Center

How long have you been volunteering?
Seven years.

How often do you volunteer?
“I help with every event including Beauty and the Beach, Monte Carlo and the Bluegrass Festival. At least 100 hours a year minimum.”

What keeps you interested in volunteering?
“Meeting all the people. They’re great. I see so many talented artists. It’s just like a big family here. It’s always so nice when the teachers come and say ‘thank you so much’ and give you a big hug.”

What do you like about the beaches?
“It’s such a nice, quiet community. Granted, you have to deal with the traffic for the beaches, but hey, that’s what it’s all about. This is Florida. It’s a wonderful place, and we watch out for each other.”

How can the public help out?
“Any time we have one of our events, anyone can help volunteer. Whether it be handing out fliers for the event, coming in to help decorate or monetarily it’s always helpful. But volunteering is the key thing.”
