Indian Shores Coffee's Music Night Hits the RIght Notes

If you have a music talent that you’re looking to show off, you might want to think about checking out the Indian Shores Coffeehouse on Saturday or, starting next week, Thursday nights.

Indian Shores Coffee hosts an open-mic music night each Saturday night, that has been so successful, they’re going to start doing it on Thursdays as well.

The musical host for the night is Gary Huckleberry, a veteran musician of 30 years who has performed around the nation.

Huckleberry starts out the night by playing slide guitar and singing for the first hour and then anyone is welcome to start making music.

“Everyone’s welcome, all skill levels,” Huckleberry said.

Anyone is welcome to get up on stage and perform, no matter the instrument, Huckleberry said.

The event is set up to be all ages and friendly for anyone looking to cut their teeth on performing.

“We get some people who have never performed before, and they’re a little nervous. Everyone is so supportive, though, that it goes well,” Huckleberry said.

The musicians run the gamut of styles, with guitars, fiddles, horns and singers featured regularly. There are some more unique performers that you won’t see anywhere else, as well.

“We had a three-year-old come up and grab the mic to sing her A, B, C’s to wild applause,” Huckleberry said.

The night has been so successful that parking lot gets regularly filled on Saturday nights, and some people have to park further down the road at the Indian Shores City Hall.

“It gets packed and this is the slow season and it gets packed,” Huckleberry said.

The open mic night happens every Saturday at 8 p.m. and will start running Thursdays the first week of October at 7 p.m.
