Banana Lobbed At Truck Leads To Road Rage Shooting: Police

A Pinellas Park man has been arrested after ​police said he shot at a pickup truck on U.S. 19 after that driver threw a banana at his truck.

PINELLAS PARK, FL — A Pinellas Park man has been arrested after police said he shot at a pickup truck on U.S. 19 after that driver threw a banana at his pickup truck.

According to Pinellas Park police, around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Peter Sala Jr., 29, got into an argument with Robert Kyle Lewis, 34, of Largo while both were driving south on U.S. 19.

In the 7500 block of U.S. 19, police said, Sala threw part of a banana out the window of his truck, hitting the side of Lewis' pickup truck.

Police said Lewis had a handgun with him in his truck and responded to the tossed banana by shooting at Sala's pickup truck. The bullet shattered the right front window of Sala's truck and lodged in the dashboard, police said. Sala was injured when flying glass struck him in the leg, police said.

On Wednesday, Lewis agreed to meet with Pinellas Park police detectives and was charged with shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle and criminal mischief, both felonies.

Lewis was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where bail was set at $12,000.
