Meet an Artist: Julie Story

Photographer Julie Story combines her love of the art form and the natural beauty of the beach to capture snazzy pictures.

Julie Story is a spunky 24 year old with two kids and a full time day job. Her art and her passion, however, is photography.

She grew up in Pinellas county but began her career while living in Indiana. Story says that taking pictures in Florida is entirely different.

“I really love the clients' interaction with the environment. Last weekend I did a shoot with some kids who were seeing the beach for the first time. To be able to experience that moment and see their appreciation for the sand and water was really fun,” Story says.

She has her associates degree in graphic design. She began professional photography six years ago, and has only been back in Florida for the past year and a half.

“Shooting on the beach is more technically challenging,” she explains. “The sun is so bright and you’re worried that you could drop your equipment in the sand.” But it’s worth the risk to her.

When asked if she would want to live anywhere else, she said “No. Except maybe closer to the beach. There’s something really exquisite about sunsets, more of a tropical life and the smell of the air. And for me that relates to feeling like home.”

Being someone's photographer is very personal for Story. “They’re not my clients, they’re people. If I shoot your wedding, I want to know about your relationship and capture your personality.”
