Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Critical Following Crash Saturday

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger sustained critical injuries following a crash at Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger sustained critical injuries following a crash Saturday at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, 46-year-old Kristen Johnson was driving an SUV south on Seminole Boulevard, preparing to make a left turn onto eastbound 54th Avenue North.

Deputies said Stephen Smith and his passenger, 54-year-old Robyn Cox, were traveling north on Seminole Boulevard on a 2018 Harley Davidson Street Glide when Smith attempted to beat the red light just as Johnson made her left turn.

The motorcycle hit the SUV and Smith and Cox were both ejected. Smith was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cox remains in critical but stable condition.

Johnson and her 14-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries.

Deputies said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
