Motor Scooter Rider Seriously Injured In U.S. 19 Crash

PINELLAS PARK, FL — A motor scooter operator remains in serious condition following an accident Thursday morning on U.S. 19.

Pinellas Park Police were called to the accident at 6:02 a.m. in the southbound lanes in the 11700 block of U.S. 19 on top of the 110th Avenue overpass.

Shane Banfield, 44, of Largo was driving a Chevrolet Impala when he rear-ended a Kaitong motor scooter driven by Diego Alburqueque, 22, of Largo.

Alburqueque was ejected from the motor scooter, which caught fire.

Banfield remained at the scene and cooperated with police. There is no indication of driver impairment or excessive speed.

The Pinellas Park Police Department are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the police department at 727-369-7864.
