New Port Richey Man Cited In Crash With Pinellas Sheriff's Car
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Major Accident Team is investigating a crash involving a K9 deputy.

PINELLAS PARK, FL – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Major Accident Team is investigating a crash involving a K9 deputy.
According to the sheriff’s office, 47-year-old Jeremy Whitney of 4539 County Breeze Drive, New Port Richey, was driving his 2017 Toyota Tacoma south in the right lane of 49th Street North, approaching the intersection of 118th Avenue North around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, May 13.
On-duty K9 Deputy Wyeth Whitehurst, 29, was driving his marked 2018 Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Chevy Tahoe west on 118th Avenue North with his lights and sirens activated for an emergency call for service.

Whitehurst slowed down and attempted to clear the intersection. Investigators say Whitney proceeded through the intersection and struck the sheriff’s Chevy Tahoe on the passenger side.
Whitney was transported to the hospital with a minor injury. Whitehurst and K9 Devon were not injured.

Investigators say speed on the part of Whitney was a possible factor in the crash. Whitney was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
