Newt U Is Now in Session

Newt Gingrich's latest Newt University, an online community of seminars, was at the St. Petersburg Marriott and dealt with the issues of government and small businesses.

Professor Gingrich offered his Small Business and Politics 101 course today to a receptive crowd at the Marriott Hotel in Clearwater.

The best part? No exams.

Gingrich, who is comfortable sharing his opinions, said his goal is to keep the American people informed about important topics in the upcoming election through Newt University.

"This is all an experiment to see if we can build a citizen-oriented, solution-oriented online education opportunity for people," Gingrich said.

Gingrich  did not spare his criticism for Barack Obama or the Democratic Party. He linked a lot of American small business problems to Democratic rules.

Gingrich was running for the Republican nomination and is now using Newt University as a way to connect his ideas with the voters and Republican delegation at the RNC.

The focus of Tuesday's seminar, titled "We Built It", was on small businesses and the effects of government.

The seminar included speakers who were small business owners and have seen the various effects of government on their repective establishments.

"We wanted to build on this question of we built it because there was a fascinating, spontaneous national reaction to President Obama's assertion that you didn't build it," Gingrich said.

Before Gingrich took the stage, clips were shown of Obama explaining how sucessful people didn't get there on their own.

"Ironically, part of what the President said is true. Everyone who's sucessful has mentors. Everyone who's sucessful has people they work with," Gingrich said.

Gingrich went on to say that this is a voluntary action by Americans, not the government.

"When they talk about what they want, they mean they want to take your money to give to a beauracracy to give to a politician to achieve a goal that politician has approved," Gingrich said.

If you'd like to see the full seminar, an archived version  will be available on Newt University.
