Only on the Beach: Stand Up Paddleboards

For the past four years, The Island Shop has kept beach goers on their feet while they learn to paddleboard.

For those of us who aren’t quite ready to surf, or for those who are looking for something new to try, offers stand up paddleboards to rent.

To ride, you stand up on the board on both feet. Unlike surfing though, you get paddles. You use the paddles to skim through the surf. This particular shop has 9 or 10 boards that get booked daily. If you show up around 8 a.m., they’ll offer you an hour lesson before your first ride.

You can take the board out to the Gulf or behind the store to the Intercoastal, if you’re looking for calmer water. To rent a board it’s $30 for a half day and $60 for a full.

Paddleboarding isn’t something you could do most places, so take advantage of it on the beach. Whether you want to spend some time in the sun or you’re planning a group outing, it could be a unique experience.
