Pedestrian Killed In Crash In Pinellas Park

A pedestrian was killed Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing 34th Street North.

PINELLAS PARK, FL — A pedestrian was died Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of 34th Street North at 62nd Avenue.

At 8:10 p.m., a man was walking across the road while he was struck. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where he died.

Officers learned the pedestrian was walking in the crosswalk across 34th Street North against the "Do Not Walk" symbol. At the same time, Donte Gainer, 27, of St. Petersburg was traveling south on 34th Street North in the middle lane with a green light to continue through the intersection.

The pedestrian stepped into the path of Gainer's vehicle. Speed nor impairment were a factor in the crash. The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
