Pinellas Park Go-Kart Driver Killed During Illegal Drag Race

PINELLAS PARK, FL — A go-kart driver has died following a crash at the Showtime Speedway race track in Pinellas Park.

According to the Pinellas Park Police, around 1 p.m. Thursday, two people snuck into the closed drag strip at 4398 126th Ave. N. with gas-powered go-karts and began to race one another.

Police said go-kart operator Jesse Outlaw, 29, didn't realize there was a guardrail set up across his race lane and crashed into it. He was not wearing a helmet and the go-kart was not equipped with a safety harness.

Outlaw was taken to Bayfront Hospital where he died. The driver of the second go-kart was interviewed and released with no charges.
