The 72-year-old man reportedly hit a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon and went into cardiac arrest shortly after.

ST. PETE BEACH, FL — A 72-year-old St. Pete Beach man is dead following a Tuesday afternoon crash on Gulf Boulevard.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, David Lang was heading north on Gulf Boulevard in the median lane around 3:02 p.m. on a 1985 Honda Elite motor scooter. At that time, Jeffrey Kurnick, 18, of Tampa was crossing Gulf from east to west at the 70th Avenue intersection. Deputies say Lang’s scooter struck Kurnick, causing minor injuries.

“Investigators say Lang apparently suffered a heart attack following the crash,” an email from the agency stated. Lang was taken to Palms of Pasadena Hospital where he later died.
