Sealed Search Warrant Reveals List of Items Recovered from Rothwell Residence After Cadet Disappeared

A wooden club, passports and a vacuum filter were among the items recovered by investigators from the Indian Rocks Beach condo shared by Kelly Rothwell and David Perry in the weeks after her disappearance court records show.

The warrant also gave investigators permission to collect forensic evidence.

Rothwell, 35, a recruit at the , was last seen leaving a Clearwater Chili’s restaurant at 3:30 p.m. March 13. Her green 2007 Subaru Outback was found later two miles from the condo parked on the street at 4th Avenue and 2nd Street in Indian Rocks Beach.

Sheriff detectives March 24 for unit 201 at 2708 Gulf Blvd, the condominium shared by Rothwell and Perry.

Investigators asked a judge for the search warrant March 23, about 10 days after Rothwell went missing.

They were looking for "any sign of a struggle" the warrant said. It also sought to “diligently search for the herein described property” including a red Dell laptop, Rothwell’s cell phone and purse, trace evidence including hair clumps, root balls of hair, fingernails, fibers of forensic interest and luminescent evidence.

Detectives inventoried the items found in unit 201: a laptop, a vacuum filter, a wooden club, a video camera and charger, a second tape from a video camera, pictures, a Sony memory card, four thumb drives, a key, three cell phones, four cell phone chargers, three diplomas, a birth certificate, red envelope with three keys but only two had keys, two EZ passes, two sets of vehicle keys, a black wallet with badge, two passports and two expired passports, three brown folders with paperwork, a manilla envelope with paperwork, a marriage license and dissolution of marriage paperwork.

Rothwell's downstairs neighbors , then loud bangs and pounding coming from the apartment around the time she is thought to have disappeared.

Mary Williamson said she also heard shuffling and vacuuming that day.

Perry, a 46-year-old retired New York State prison guard, moved back to New York the weekend of Rothwell’s disappearance. He first refused to talk with investigators, later he  to a search of his vehicle by New York law enforcement and provided a timeline for his whereabouts through an attorney. He was  May 5 on a charge unrelated to Rothwell’s disappearance.

Cecilia Bareda, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department, said detectives could not talk about the items recovered from the search warrant because the case is still an open investigation.

Bareda said detectives have had numerous tips and leads and still are treating the investigation as a missing person case.
