Seaside Spirits: Paddy O'Sullivan's

Gourmet burgers—including alligator and bison— and beer in a place that is decidedly "non-beach bar?" Paddy O'Sullivan's delivers something a little different on St. Pete Beach.

In the hearts of some people, there will always be a sweet spot for the Irish pub. It is little wonder; with a focus on beer, food and sports, few can beat the Irish for a good time.

Paddy O'Sullivan's on Gulf Boulevard takes the Irish pub theme and raises the bar—with gourmet burgers. The unique bar menu certainly makes O'Sullivan's a stand out in St. Pete Beach.

Yes, I know you are asking, "How gourmet can a burger be?"

The answer comes in five words: Bison, Wild Boar, Alligator and Waygu. For the uninitiated, Waygu is a Kobe-style beef.

O'Sullivan's offers a multitude of custom burger choices, but the menu also includes veggie and poultry burgers as well as hot dogs and seafood Po Boys. Spiked milkshakes and a list of compelling appetizers round out the fascinating meals at O'Sullivans.

An Irish seafood gumbo was one of the most appealing, but it left a question—why would a seafood gumbo contain chunks of meat? For pescetarians—those who eat seafood but no red meat—it is a little puzzling.

Of course, the true test of an Irish pub is the beer, and O'Sullivan's doesn't disappoint. With Guinness, Harp and Bass on draft—a convenient way to cover all bases—you can have a well poured Black-and-Tan. There are also over 100 different bottled beers as well as a full bar, so O'Sullivan's has something for everyone's taste.

One thing on tap is a beer called "Paddy'O's Lager." Do not be surprised that it is only Bud Light on tap, but it is an innovative way to offer a draft special. For only $2.50 a pint, it is certainly worth a try.

On Saturday, September 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 a.m., O'Sullivan's will host a "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" party. You can enjoy drinks and food specials set to live music.

Burgers, beer and soccer on big-screen TV—all in a place that is very "non-beach bar" in atmospehere?
