Seaside Spirits: Swigwam Beach Bar
Swigwams Beach Bar on Corey Avenue combines cheap beer, great atmosphere and a good location (across from the Beach Theater) to make for a day of FUN!
If you are looking for some affordable fun, head down to Corey Avenue, where serves cold beer in a great atmosphere. Here are five things (at least) to like about Swigwam:
- Cheap Beer –Nothing says FUN like $1 drafts! Even though the selection of $1 beers is limited to Bud Light, Miller Lite and a couple of others, Swigwams also has Guinness, Harp and Shock Top on draft. Happy hour is from 4-6p.m. Monday through Friday. After that, the price goes up to a whopping $1.75! The bottled beer selection is good too, including Sierra Nevada and Kirin. Not bad for a beach bar hangout.
- Happy Hour… Early AND Late—The full-liquor bar has $2.50 well drinks from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Happy hour also extends to 11p.m.-3 a.m. That makes it perfect because…
- The Beach Theater—… at 366 Corey Avenue, Swigwam is located right across from the Beach Theater! What’s better than taking in a movie at Pinellas County’s best independent movie house, then heading across the street to knock back a few cold ones?
- Live Music—Yes, it may be one guy playing Jimmy Buffet tunes on a guitar, but it is live and it is a good time. Especially during happy hour, (it’s why they call it “happy”).
- Pub Crawls—Swigwam is one of the sponsors of the 11th annual Geckofest Pub Crawl, scheduled in Gulfport for Saturday, August 13. Any bar that is part of a pub-crawl is always a good place to check out.
One more thing to add to this list—the staff, which has a great attitude (not everyplace does). Behind the bar, at times it can get a little tiresome. Bartender Mary had to repeat her name to someone every five minutes or so. She did it every time with a smile. That’s a good sport.
