St. Pete Beach Booze Ban Stands

City commissioners voted unanimously to keep the existing ban in place.

St. Pete Beach goers won’t be able to pop the top on a beer as they enjoy the surf and sand without facing fines any time in the near future.

City Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to keep the existing ban on beach alcohol consumption in place, Bay News 9 reported. At issue was a proposal that would have allowed an easing of the rules.

The city currently bans alcohol consumption in public places, including beaches, sidewalks, parks and streets, Fox News reported. The rules have been in place since 1990.

Businesses along the beaches, however, can obtain special permits to serve alcohol outdoors. Tuesday’s vote did not change that, Bay News 9 noted.
