St. Pete Beach is the first of the beach communities to sue BP over the oil spill that occured in April of 2010 in the Gulf, according to Bay News 9.
There is currently no set amount of money that St. Pete Beach is looking for, but they want to receive compensation for the all the money lost as result of the spill.

Not long after the spill happened, businesses on the beaches came to a standstill due to decreased tourism and vacationers.
Even though no oil turned up on the shores, tourism dropped dramatically after the spill.

St. Pete Beach is the first community to seek reparations. Treasure Island, Madeira Beach and Indian Rocks Beach are also looking into litigation.
