State Grant Allows Pinellas Sheriff To Beef Up DUI Patrols

With the help of a $34,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Pinellas Sheriff is beefing up its DUI enforcement.

LARGO, FL – Pinellas County drivers who are tempted to drink and drive might want to rethink that impulse. With the help of a $34,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is beefing up its DUI enforcement.

The grant money will be used to target drunk drivers in areas of Pinellas County that are notorious for intoxicated motorists.

The effort, which will kick off Saturday, Feb. 3, and run through Sept. 30, will allow the sheriff’s office to add “saturation patrols” that will focus on impaired drivers, speeders and drivers who don’t use their safety belts.
