Sustainable Floridians Creating Green Aware Volunteers
A new program through Pinellas County helps to train Floridians on protecting the environment and giving back.

Pinellas County is participating in the pilot of Sustainable Floridians, a program designed to help train Floridians on guarding the environment and volunteering in communities.
The program was started with the intent of developing citizens and volunteers and making them more engaged in giving back to their community through volunteer service, according to the Pinellas County Extension website.
Participants in the program will learn ways to live in sustainable and green way within their community.

The program, which lasts seven weeks will meet weekly. Different topics will be covered each week like, energy conservation, land use issues, community leadership and other topics important to community volunteering.
Interested participants will have to complete 30 volunteer hours in their community as well. Participants are encouraged to act as activists in their local community to spread the word of sustainability, according to the Pinellas County Extension website.

The training program begins September 15. The program meets every Thursday for the period at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. If you’re interested in joining the program, check the Pinellas County Extension website for more information and to sign up.
