At 7:39 a.m. April 10, Pinellas Park officers responded to what was initially reported as a verbal domestic disturbance between a husband and wife at Tampa Bay Imaging, 7800 66th St N, unit 106. David Wittman had forcefully removed his wife of 30 years from her workplace and took her into the parking lot of Tampa Bay Imaging where he shot her multiple times. David Wittman then fled the scene.
Within minutes, patrol officers found Wittman barricaded in his home at 6749 80th Ave N. He was armed with a handgun and police learned that he had multiple guns inside the home including an AR 15-style rifle.

The SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation teams were called in and negotiated with Wittman for more than 6 1/2 hours.
At multiple times throughout the day, Wittman placed the gun down while talking with officers only to pick it back up a short time later.
At about 2:23 p.m., officers attempted to forcefully take Wittman into custody but were unsuccessful. Wittman retreated into the house and armed himself again. That's when SWAT Team members fired two shots, killing Wittman. No shots were fired at officers.
"This is not the outcome we were hoping for, but we are thankful that no additional members of our community, and certainly none of our officers were injured during the incident," said Pinellas Park Police Capt. Brian Unmisig.
Anna Wittman was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where she died Tuesday.
The officers involved in the shooting were Officer Joshua Pringle, 33, a nine-year veteran of the department, and Officer Per Haugland, 36, a four-year member. Both have been placed on routine administrative leave with pay, pending the conclusion of an investigation by the State Attorney's Office for the Sixth Judicial Circuit.
