Swimmer Missing Near Indian Rocks Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard is asking Tampa Bay area residents to keep an eye out for a missing swimmer.

According to the agency, Michael Cowles, 53, went missing in water about 10 miles west of Indian Rocks Beach Saturday. The Coast Guard was notified around noon via marine band radio that Cowles had jumped into the water to cool off, but never surfaced.

Authorities say Cowles was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and denim shorts. A search for him was active as of 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Boaters are being asked to keep a sharp eye out for the man. Anyone with information is asked to call Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at 727-824-7506.
