MADEIRA BEACH, FL — A St. Petersburg man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after being accused of swiping two Reese's candy bars from a 7-Eleven store on Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach July 4, according to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Pinellas deputies were called to the 7-Eleven at 5:50 p.m. after the store owner said he spotted William Bently Harris, 52, placing two candy bars valued at $5.58 in his shorts pocket, according to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

When the store owner attempted to stop Harris, he said Harris ran from the store, according to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

When Pinellas County sheriff's deputies caught up with Harris and checked his shorts pocket, they said they not only discovered the two stolen candy bars but found a sandwich bag containing a rock substance that tested positive for crack cocaine, according to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Harris was also charged with petit theft, according to an affidavit from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
