Treasure Island Police Search for Electric Bicycle Thieves
Treasure Island Police are asking the public for any help in identifying the people involved in a theft of an electric bicycle on August 3, valued at $1,750.
At 3:45 p.m., the Treasure Island Police issued an alert for a thief who stole an electric bicycle near the Kingfish Marina. Police are asking for public assistance in identifying those involved. The theft occurred on Wednesday, August 3 at approximately 11:15 p.m.
St. Pete Beach resident Matthew Collins parked his blue Izip Zuma "E" electric bike at approximately 10 a.m. at Kingfish Park, at the end of Kingfish Drive. The park is located east of Gators Café and Saloon. Collins arrived there for a fishing trip on a friend's boat. When he returned to the marina at 11:50 p.m., the cable lock was cut and the bike was missing.
The bike is equipped with headlight and taillight, and was purchased new in June for $1,750.

A continuing investigation by the Treasure Island Police has identified one vehicle used in the crime, with a second vehicle possibly involved. Using videotaped footage obtained from Gators Sport Bar, the two vehicles were seen in the area of the theft between 10:20 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. The suspect vehicle is a late model four-door sedan, possible a Nissan Sentra or similar model.
The vehicle in question is either silver or light in color and missing all four hubcaps. The second vehicle is a small, dark hatchback. On the video, both vehicles are shown driving back and forth in front of Gators for approximately 35 minutes prior to the theft.

At about 11:15 p.m., the video then shows the silver vehicle leaving westbound on Kingfish Drive, with what appears to be the bicycle hanging from the back of the open trunk. The hatchback follows shortly afterwards.
The Treasure Island Police Department is asking the public to help identify the persons responsible for the theft of the bicycle, as well as the owners of the two vehicles involved. If anyone has any information, please call Officer Brandt Burton at (727) 547-4595.
