Trooper Clocks Car At 106 mph In Pinellas; Charges Driver With DUI
A trooper charged a Tarpon Springs man with driving under the influence after he said he clocked him driving 106 mph in a 50 mph zone.

PINELLAS PARK, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol charged a Tarpon Springs man with driving under the influence after a trooper said he clocked him driving 106 mph on 49th Street at Pasado Drive, according to an affidavit from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A trooper was conducting radar enforcement at 12:40 a.m., July 5 when he said he saw a convertible traveling at a high speed in the 50 mph speed zone, according to an affidavit from the Florida Highway Patrol.
When the trooper pulled the car over, he said the driver, Joseph Donald Schafer, 58, had watery, bloodshot eyes, spoke with a slur and had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, according to an affidavit from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The trooper said Schafer refused to perform a field sobriety test or provide a breath sample, according to an affidavit from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The trooper placed him under arrest and took him to the Pinellas County Jail, according to an affidavit from the Florida Highway Patrol.
