What Happens to the St. Pete Beach Police Next?

Now that the vote has gone through, what will happen with the St. Pete Beach Police?

The vote to dissolve the St. Pete Beach Police and replace them with the Pinellas County Sheriff has gone through.

Even though the decision has been made, there are still questions that haven't been answered.

Currently, the plan detailed that all members of the St. Pete Beach Police will receive positions at the Sherrif's Office at the same rate of pay, but not the same rank. Also, the transfers wouldn't be working in St. Pete Beach immediately.

The plan proposed by Sheriff  Bob Gualtieri in June called for 14 sheriffs deputies, one community officer, one detective and 5 sergeant’s for 21 sworn officers working on St. Pete Beach.

Currently, it's unspecified when the Sheriff will be taking over in St. Pete Beach. It's also unknown what will be done with the existing St. Pete Beach Police station and if the station will fit the purposes of the incoming Sheriffs.
