INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, FL — A 39-year-old woman faces charges of child abuse and animal cruelty after the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said she left a child and dog alone in an SUV Tuesday as the heat index climbed over 90 degrees.

According to the sheriff's office, Jessica Lynn Dunn of St. Petersburg parked her SUV in the area of 3rd Avenue and Gulf Boulevard, trespassing on someone's property, and left the child and dog in the SUV "for an extended period of time with the windows rolled up and the air conditioning off."

The child and dog had no water. Deputies said the child was covered in sweat and was "physically shaken and scared" when deputies released the child and dog from the SUV.

Deputies said Dunn was found a short time later on the property under the influence of drugs and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
