PLANT CITY, FL -- A 9-year-old girl has died following an ATV accident in Plant City.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, on Saturday at 8:14 p.m., an 11-year-old girl was driving a Can-Am Commander, a vehicle similar to a dune buggy with two bucket seats, on private property in the 6000 block of Varn Road. A 9-year-old girl was in the passenger seat and neither girls were wearing seat belts.

When the driver tried to turn the ATV around, she lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The driver was able to climb out from under the ATV. But the 9-year-old passenger was ejected.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue transported both girls to South Florida Hospital where the 9-year-old was pronounced dead. The driver sustained minor injuries.

The sheriff's office did not release the names of the girls.
