• What Plant City's Midtown plans could mean for downtown businesses (baynews9.com) — A long-vacant Midtown property in Plant City is close to a major redevelopment that could add housing, shops, and a grocery store while better linking Midtown with the already-bustling downtown. City leaders have picked Mosaic Development Group to negotiate a deal, and longtime downtown merchants are optimistic the project will bring more customers and renewed investment if construction moves forward.
• Plant City residents push back against Flock cameras during tense commission meeting (fox13news.com) — Plant City residents packed a commission meeting to challenge the growing use of Flock license plate cameras, pressing police and a company representative about data retention, AI tools, and surveillance. Police Chief Richard Mills defended the system, citing 101 "positive outcomes" this year, while opponents organized efforts to push back as 22 additional cameras continue to be installed.
• Florida strawberry growers get preliminary win in fight over Mexican imports (tampabay28.com) — Florida strawberry growers, including several farms around Plant City, just scored a preliminary federal ruling that Mexican winter strawberries are being sold below fair value, triggering proposed cash deposits on imports. Local growers say rising costs and thin margins make this a crucial step toward fairer competition, though shoppers could eventually see higher prices if duties stick.
