Bicyclist Killed In Plant City By Hit-And-Run Driver

Plant City police are seeking information on a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist.

PLANT CITY, FL — Plant City police are seeking information on a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist.

On Friday at 6:35 p.m., police were called to a traffic crash. According to police, a bicyclist was traveling west on Jim Johnson Road in the area of Jap Tucker Road when a pickup truck described by witnesses as a gray, late-model Ford F-150 driven by a middle-aged Hispanic man struck the bicyclist from the rear.

After striking the bicyclist, the truck fled the scene without stopping.

Plant City Fire Rescue responded to the crash scene and rendered aid to the bicyclist but the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 60-year-old Robert Scott Cook.

Police said the truck has front passenger side damage and is missing a portion of the front grille surrounding the front passenger side headlight. There may be additional damage to the truck because a witness told police that the same truck struck a pole near Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Station 25 on East Trapnell Road, east of Clemons Road.
