Man Shoots Himself In Plant City Emergency Room: Police

A man is dead after walking into the emergency room at South Florida Baptist Hospital and then shooting himself, according to police.

PLANT CITY, FL — A man is dead after walking into the emergency room at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City and then shooting himself, police said.

According to a news release from the Plant City Police Department, a 911 call from the hospital switchboard came in at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday reporting a man had entered the emergency room. The caller said the pulled out a gun and waved it around, and then shot himself in the head.

When they arrived, police were told the man had been taken to an emergency treatment room where he died from his gunshot wound, according to the release.

No staff or patients in the hospital were injured, police said.

Plant City police public information officer Capt. Alfred Van Duyne said they will not be releasing further information until the man's next of kin has been notified.
